CHINA LOGS ANOTHER BIG INCREASE

Softwood lumber prices were up in both North America and Europe in the 4Q, but it was more the result of lower inventory levels and reduced production rather than an increase in demand, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly. India's wood imports show impressive growth rates!

New Delhi, Nov. 10, 2009 (RISI) - Although the growth in softwood log imports in India is impressive, at least 80% of India's log imports are hardwood. Teak logs are imported from Myanmar, various African countries, and Central and South America.

Imports of timber and pulp to China increases

Wood Resource Quarterly has reported that imports of logs, lumber and pulp to China increased substantially in the second quarter of 2009 as the country’s economy grew by almost 8%.
